Research Profile
The Psychological Sciences Research Institute is a part of the Human Sciences sector, within which members of the Institute collaborate with other collective, comprehensive or interpretative approaches. The object of psychological research is human behavior, including its underlying cognitive, emotional, social and cultural processes, as well as its relationships with institutions and systems. The focus is on individual behavior which is studied by means of specific methods.
RESEARCH Teams
Clinical Psychology / Psychotherapy
Interdisciplinary research center on families and sexualities (CIRFASE)
The transformation of family in terms of composition, dynamics and values; couple relationships and interaction, sexual behaviors: actors, health, pleasure, and representations (including the use of internet); sexual violence: clinical evaluation, social representations, therapy and justice with regards to the perpetrators and the victims. Risk behavior related to HIV
Cognitive Psychology (Cognition and Emotion)
Research Center in health and psychological development (CSDP)
The Research Center aims at the promotion of exchanges and research activities of researchers from Louvain Academy and UCL-affiliated medical centers having common interests in empirically and clinically based interventions. It promotes interactions between practionners and researchers in various disciplines, mainly psychology and medicine, with the goal to examine, with rigorous methodologies, questions arising from either the practice or theoretical models. The research activities are related to 1 of the 3 areas: developmental psychology, health psychology, psychopathology and psychotherapy
Developmental Psychology
Research Center in health and psychological development (CSDP)
The Research Center aims at the promotion of exchanges and research activities of researchers from Louvain Academy and UCL-affiliated medical centers having common interests in empirically and clinically based interventions. It promotes interactions between practionners and researchers in various disciplines, mainly psychology and medicine, with the goal to examine, with rigorous methodologies, questions arising from either the practice or theoretical models. Methodology / Evaluation
Interdisciplinary Research Group in Socialisation, Education and Training (GIRSEF)
Developing fundamental researches in the education and training fields is the main purpose of the group. The researches developed so far are principally centered on education and training systems regulation. Since October 2007, the Girsef has grown to welcome new colleagues and new research teams. Our research priorities are now organised around 3 fields held by 3 units: - Education policies and school systems regulation - Instructional practices and environment, students’ motivation and learning - Life course, training and profession
Neuropsychology / Biopsychology
Center for Neuroscience Systems and Cognition (NeuroCS)
The overarching goal is (1) to better understand how large-scale distributed brain networks give rise to perception, cognition, motricity and their interactions, and (2) to understand how disruptions in brain function and connectivity impact cognition and behavior. Behavioral, eye movement recordings and computational methods as well neuroimaging (fMRI, EEG, TMS) are used. Various collaborative studies: sensory-motor coordination, motor control, number processing, spatial attention, representation of time, sensory plasticity, pain perception, face recognition, language production and semantic
Pedagogical Psychology
Interdisciplinary Research Group in Socialisation, Education and Training (GIRSEF)
Developing fundamental researches in the education and training fields is the main purpose of the group. The researches developed so far are principally centered on education and training systems regulation. Since October 2007, the Girsef has grown to welcome new colleagues and new research teams. Social Psychology
Center for the study of social behavior (CECOS)
The Center for the Study of Social Behavior (CSSB) promotes scientific collaborations between researchers whose overarching goal is to better understand the antecedents and consequences of social behaviors. This research covers a broad range of social issues, relies on a variety of empirical quantitative methods, and integrates various levels of analyses (i.e., individual, interpersonal, organizational, cultural). Four research domains are being developed at the CSSB: Organizational Psychology, Psychology of Religion, Social Psychology, and Work Psychology.
Special Psych. (e.g. Traffic-, Engineering-)
Work and Organisational Psychology

Unequal social relations, their effects on several dimensions of societies and strategies to reduce these inequalities. Research analyzes processes related to individuals, organizations, and social policies. 4 core principles: -Interdisciplinarity, articulating social economy, social psychology, socio-political approach, sociology and industrial relations -Development of theories based on empirical data -Integration of social issues in scientific issues, concern for the relevance of research results for the members of the civil society and the State -quantitative and qualitative methods
